  1. Looking for new/nearly new EA71 pistons for a high comp EA81 build. And finding these little buggers is proving to difficult. Not more than I anticipated, but still tough. I can get ring sets all day long, but the pistons themselves are tougher finds. I'd go to a wrecking yard and get some, but with as much strain as they'll be under, I don't want to toss something in there that may have issues. Because pulling this motor back apart may not be an option for some time. And it'll be dealing with me trying to tune it and figure out what octane it'll take it to prevent ping... Anyway, anyone got any to sell? I've got cash and am willing to deal. Twitch PS: OEM Part number is 380050100 if anyone was wondering
  2. Hello I need a little help. I'm working on rebuilding my EJ22t that come out of a 1992 Legacy. When I was putting on my new piston rings I noticed my compression ring was really loose. So I pulled out my calipers and measured my old rings. Turns out my oil scraper ring and my compression ring were the same thickness, so I'm assuming I need to get a set a rings that are 1.5mm 1.5mm 3mm. so I went online and all I been able to find are 1.2mm 1.5mm (3mm or 2.8mm) and the set that I all ready have is 1.2mm 1.5mm and 3mm, at this point I'm starting to feel like I'm going crazy. If you guys need pictures of anything just let me know and i will post them up. Thank you
  3. Thanks as always for the help. Love these forums. On my 1999 Legacy Outback (2.5L DOHC), I recently replaced my timing belt & components after a slipped tooth resulted in poor compression and misfires on cylinders 1 and 3. Before the timing belt replacement I got 90 and 80 psi compression on cylinders 1 and 3, respectively. Now I get 210 and 60 psi respectively. (On cylinders 2 and 4 I got 190 and 180). I detailed this info in this thread. A friend advised a leakdown test next. I put Cylinder 3 in TDC, held it in place with a socket and breaker bar, dialed input pressure up to 75 psi and got 72-73 on the other gauge, i.e. approximately 3-4% leakage. I could hear a quiet hissing through the oil fill cap. 1) Do these numbers seem right---i.e. are the results of my leakdown test consistent with the compression test? Want to make sure I'm doing it right. 2) Assuming it is right, this means I have worn piston rings or cylinder walls, right?
