  1. Can the rear alignment on a 2nd generation 4wd Subaru be adjusted by mere mortals?
  2. Hello everyone, I am new to Subaru. Recently I changed the low beam bulb for a more powerful H7 and what happened is that the low beams do not illuminate the road; they seem to be going to the sides. The right hand side to the right and the left hand side to the left and not very far, so the center of the road is not lit up, I took it to the Subaru dealer with no change in the light pattern. I would appreciate your comments as to what is happening and how to solve the problem. Thanks, Alejandro
  3. Hey everyone, I posted about my 1995 Legacy L sedan a few weeks back, but here's a refresher. My 95 legacy was in an accident that damaged the front bumper. So I decided to turn it into my project/winter car. So after searching online awhile about how to lift it, I decided to slap some struts from a 1997 OB and got a set of 1" Subtle Solution spacers that attach to the upper strut mount. After doing the front, everything fit perfectly. And I was happy with the results. Only one minor thing, I have quite a bit of positive camber on my fronts. I tried adjusting the camber bolts to even it back out. But to no avail. I know I need to take it to a tire shop and have the alignment done professionally. It's lifted about 2.5-3" now, and I'm just humbly wondering if anyone has run into this, or knows how to fix it. Before taking to a shop. Thanks everyone for your time!
  4. Hey guys, I just pulled the engine and did the head gaskets on my EJ251 legacy wagon. As I was about to install my new timing belt, I realized that I am entirely unable to get the left side cam sprocket timing marks to line up! The repair manual and multiple internet resources show that the mark should be going pretty much straight up towards a notch in the rear timing cover. My cover happens to be chipped, but I can see where the notch used to be. For some reason, the cam sprocket just won't stay where it *should* be, the tension whips the cam far to either side of it (YES, my crank timing mark is lined up properly, all pistons are recessed, I didn't just destroy my valves). These are the closest places to the timing mark that the cam will rest. Timing hash on cam is indicated with red line. Timing mark on timing cover is indicated with a yellow line. What is going on here?? I have read on multiple articles AND the manual that there should be no tension on cam when it is at proper point, this isn't some weird Audi that I should need special clamps for. Thanks for the help!
  5. I've got a 1998 Legacy Outback. When I make a right hand turn, it continues to pull to the right after I come out of the turn. If I turn the wheel about 360 degrees to the left there is a clunk sound and it is centered again. If I hit a bump in the road it'll pop back into place too. Any ideas what might be causing the pulling? Thanks in advance! -Scott
  6. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones. Driving a Subaru Outback 2003 VDC 3L H6 in great condition and running Michellin Performance Primacy MXV4 225/60R16 98H from Costco. Costco's general tire rotation recommendation is every 7500 miles. I just did a first rotation at 8,201 miles. Should I do my next rotation close to another 8,201 miles to keep things relatively even, or sooner at 7 or 7500 miles? Also Costco rotated them front to back and back to front, keeping the tires on the same side (in other words, R front and R rear switched, and L front and L rear switched). Is this always the correct pattern? Generally how soon after tire rotation to you go for wheel alignment? Barring any particularly jarring pothole or bump, how often do you align your wheels?
  7. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation about what kind of alignment to get for a Loyale 4 WD wagon? LesSchwab always tries to sell a "4 wheel thrust" alignment instead of the standard alignment. I thought there was no adjustments in the rear wheels and making a 4 wheel alignment impossible. Is this correct, and does this 4 wheel thrust alighment make sense for a Loyale wagon? Thanks everyone. DHDH
  8. I took my 86' Brat to my mechanic because it was shaking at about 50-60mph & it would come and go with good a road. It was also pulling to the left a fair bit but by the time I took it into the shop it had really quit pulling at all. I'm wanting to get my nephew in a Subaru. Found a good prospect for the application, 3 hours away though. I want to drive my Brat for this task. My question being if I drive my Brat for these 3 hours there and 3 hours back am I looking at potential failing of my steering/suspension. Mechanic told me that I need the following parts replaced. 1. Ball Joints 2. Inner tie rod end 3. Lower control arm bushing 4. Strut rod bushing 5. Steering Gear Mounting Bushing They also told me that they could only find the first two items. I went to Rock Auto and found the third without really looking, hum..... Any how would I be better off taking a less fuel efficient vehicle for my 3 hr drive task?? When I bought the car the seller told me he had taken it to an alignment shop and they couldn't do anything to help the issue, IDK what to believe for sure on that though.
