  1. My 2009 Impreza Outback sport has been experiencing some persistent coolant leaks. I am quite new to working on cars so I have come to you all for help! Initially I thought that it was coming from the coolant hoses connected to the throttle body, so I replaced them, replaced the throttle body gasket, and cleaned the throttle body as well. After attempting to drive it I noticed that when the car got hot and up to pressure the leak was still ongoing paired with quite a large amount of coolant loss. I was able to catch a glimpse of the coolant hose that connects to the air intake manifold on the drivers side (about two inches from the throttle body and slightly under the throttle body’s drivers side coolant hose) leaking coolant. After the engine cooled, I checked out that hose and found that it was absolutely crispy, it had no elasticity to it what so ever. I ordered the part and replaced the hose. Now I’m seeing a coolant leak from that same spot where the hose meets the air intake manifold. I do not have a pressure tester though I will be picking one up shortly. despite this I’m confident that this connection or hose is where the coolant leak is. My questions are as follows: what is the hose fitting that screws into the air intake manifold and allows the vacuum hose to mount on it called? why does this coolant hose have no clips (doesn’t seem to on diagrams I have seen) and could this be an issue? There were no clips on the initial hose and it obviously ran fine for year. Is it possible that its the fitting thats gone bad and not the hose? If so any advice on sourcing and properly replacing it? Thank you everyone!
  2. I am trying to solve coolant leaks on the passenger side head of a 93 Loyale. Before dismantling, I saw coolant on the top of the head from the intake gasket when I pressurized to cooling system - engine off. There was also coolant coming out (slowly) from the rear cylinder exhaust port. It had leaked into and around the exhaust pipe rusting the bolts. Now I have pulled the head looking for issues inside. The head gasket looks fine but the top row of head bolts are rusty. Probably from the intake leak on the top of the head. Anything else to look for? I hope the head isn't cracked. Could the intake leak cause all this? (I'll try to attach pictures or link to my gallery) This is a JDM engine. The EGR pipe routes to a cannister that isn't connected to anything on the other side (just plugged). Is that the best thing to do?
  3. 92 Loyale with 187K. 2WD. Is there a way to guess if this is just a blown Head Gasket or a cracked head? The car has been losing coolant for a couple of years. Now the temperature started rising. I introduced compressed air in all the cylinders at TDC. At the cylinder #2 the coolant started leaking from the radiator. I am a fairly conservative driver, drive around the town and do not rev the engine. What do you guys think? Regard, Sam
  4. Hi everyone, I recently picked up a 94 loyale with a few problems. Today I was replacing the valve cover gasket and decided to check my spark plugs for oil. I unexpectedly found some coolant on my spark plug (upper passenger side). I also realized that I was empty on coolant. I don't know where the leak is coming from, but I do have some clues. Hopefully you guys can help me out. I took some pictures but didn't realize that they are oversized for this forum so I'm going to retake them in about 30 minutes when I get home. Best description I can give for now is that there is puddle of coolant 12 and 3 o'clock from the upper passenger side spark plug, as well as what looks like a bolt hole beside it (is there supposed to be something in there?).   5. Hey folks, I have a 1990 loyale that is naturally aspirated and I am losing some coolant when I drive it. I found a couple different wet spots on the radiator​ fins and one underneath a bolt on top of the radiator that squirts when I drive it. The engine does not overheat, but there is a small amount of whispy white smoke coming from the wet spot on top of the radiator when I come to a stop. It started doing this a few days ago after a long trip out of town. The radiator fins are corroded and falling apart in some places. I'm young and not super mechanically adept yet, so I want to check and see if anybody has any advice before I get a new radiator​. If you know any other factors that could be causing this let me know I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys
  6. my 90 Legacy has a constant leak of coolant (a drop every second or so) The T stat does not show any like it overheating and it seems as the leak stop at some point i keep refiling the radiator every day or two with just a few ounces of coolant for a temporary solution i bought a liquid in Walmart to drop in the rad (it smells like eggs) it seems like its coming from the Gasket . where the Timing Belt plastic cover is and drip right where the bottom bolt holds it the car has 211k not sure how to approach this issues I hope one of you subie pros can point me to the right direction id like to know if i should be looking at replacing the Timing belt/water Pump and the whole deal or would it work with just buying a Gasket? Is there a simple way to stop the leak or do i have to take it apart?? thanks appreciate any help
  7. I have a 96 Legacy L Wagon with an EJ22 in it. I have 120,000 on the car, I bought it 3,000 miles ago. Now I have a head gasket leaking coolant from the passenger side under the timing belt cover (according to my mechanic). The car runs fine. It has not overheated. I brought it in to have the cam and crank seals done because they were dumping oil. I am reading more and more about how uncommon this head gasket issue is on the 2.2. I am starting to wonder if this guy has it wrong. Is there something else I should check out? In order to do this, I need to cut some of the parts costs. Do I have to get OEM head set? Is there something more reasonably priced available that will hold up for the many miles I have left on this engine if I can get it on track again? Quoted parts: $440 That seems higher than it has to be from my searches around the web. Do I have to put in a new head bolt, too? I know some are designed to expand once. Is that true on this? Quoted: $125 I have checked out few videos showing how easy it is to plane the heads, too. Easy enough for me to do on my own without messing it up? That would cut a significant cost for me, too. Quoted: $150 I would love to dig into it myself, but without a lot of experience, I need a big confidence boost or someone who knows more than me to help me out with it. Thanks for you help.
