  1. Howdy, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Karl and I have owned a few Subaru cars over the years. We currently own a 2018 Crosstrek (Jurassic World themed, still a work in progress...Have decals on and the UpTop rack will go on soon, pic included) and before that owned a 2010 Outback which we put over 180k miles on driving all over the US. I joined this forum though not because of those cars but more for the fact that I am looking at getting a XT or XT6 as a project / fun weekend car. I love the 80's design aesthetic and feel the XT cars have it in spades! Would love to know more about them... how hard it is to get parts for them? Common issues? Will they fit someone over 6ft or is it a tight squeeze? How hard are they to work on? &tc, &tc. Other non-Subaru vehicles I have owned in the past include a 72 VW Beetle, 93 Ranger, 01 Mazda Protege Mp3, 87 Toyota 4runner Turbo, 05 BMW f650 Dakar, and a 15 JKU. There are a few others in there as well. I have done my fair share of work on cars (mostly on the 4runner and VW), and am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I know this was a bit of a ramble but thanks for reading and hopefully some of ya'll will pop in here and impart me with some Subaru wisdom. Can't wait to learn and contribute. Have a great day and stay safe out there in this crazy FN world. -Karl
  2. Hey everyone, Im new to the forum and have been reading as much as I can. I know people have asked this question, but it seems like it was with the older models. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. So basically I'm finally looking to get my first subaru. I have it narrowed down to 2018 crosstrek premium with 6mt, 2018 forester 2.5i premium with 6mt or wrx, Currently wife has ram 1500 longhorn (5seater) and I have ram 2500 6seater. I have family of 6. This vehicle is supposed to be my toy / daily driver. Picking up a second job and will be traveling about 60 miles daily. I prefer the back roads winding through farms in erie vs the straight highway. Narrowed down to these 3 models because I want manual transmission to keep me engaged. I have tried paddles, but it just isn't the same. WRX all but eliminated because would probably have to trade in my truck to make it work. In my eyes, my ram is the family vehicle, so it needs to stay. BRZ is out for the same reason as Dodge challenger scatback with shaker body. My wife actually loves it as much as me, but rear drive in NE PA can't be daily driver and I would have to trade in family vehicle. The only other vehicle I am considering outside of subaru is civic SI, This is actually the best SI I have ever driven. She thinks it is sexy as a date car and it is fun to drive. I saw reports that the reliability is down for honda which I don't like. Pretty much leaves me with crosstrek vs. Forester. Local dealer doesn't have them on lot to test drive. It looks like I may need to drive to Pittsburgh or Ohio to drive both. In my uneducated opinion, crosstrek is impreza with clearance which is why I am not talking about the impreza. We have discussed the idea of needing to take 2 vehicles everywhere and she is fine with this. I am "ok" with this. Crosstrek wins the mileage and initial looks. Which is more fun to drive? Capable off road and in the snow? Being taller is the forester more likely to flip? Are all 2017 impreza accessories compatible with crosstrek? Is crosstrek or forester more reliable? I think like most people here my dream car would be crosstrek wrx. One can dream though. Thanks again. Jason
  3. Hello from North Alabama! I love my 2017 Crosstrek Limited. It is essentially a rolling camera bag to help me capture rural decay, old bridges and anything interesting.

  5. My Hybrid Crosstrek has 19,000 miles and all my tires are going bald already. I do go camping with the dogs in back and some gear. I'm wondering if there is a design flaw with the Crosstrek. Has anyone else had this issue?
  6. Are you familiar with all the Tamiya ones ? ... ie: XV-01 : 1/10 Scale & About $200 Aus ... TT-02 : 1/10 Scale & About $100 Aus ... Well, while searching for other Subaru models I found this : 1/43 scale from WiT's ... .. Only about $70 Aus ... ... I might get one of these too ! Taken from here : AmiAmi [Character & Hobby Shop] | WIT'S Complete Resin Model 1/43 SUBARU XV Satin White Pearl Let us know if you spot any others ... Cheers, Bantum ...
  7. Ive had my XV for about two months now and I really love it. Just started to add some accessories on to the vehicle over the last few weeks. Seeing how the weather here in NJ has been in the 90s (with humidity factored in 100+) I opted to have vent shields put on the vehicle. (Nearly all last week there was a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms which left enough doubt in my head to not crack the windows) I had put these on my previous non-Subaru vehicle and loved the addition of them, I really never left my windows closed all year long. So this afternoon I put on the new vent shields that I had purchased through the Subaru dealership where I had purchased the car. I was told these are the same ones you can buy through subaru.com. Ok right. Well once on the car I found a slight issue: the area of coverage closest to the side mirror is not covered by the shield when the window is brought down to the halfway point to the top. Ill try to explain as best I can without a picture. The area covered at the top of the door can be lowered say 2 inches and be covered by the shield. If i was to bring the window down that 2 inches the top area of the window is covered by the shield and the area of the window (the downward sloping area) towards the side mirror is slightly exposed. I can only lower the window halfway (we'll say only 1 inch at the top). If this is still confusing Ill happily upload a photo of it, I didnt think to take one in the daylight today as I was getting frustrated with my new found problem. Has anyone else purchased these from their dealership and found this problem. The box was all in Japanese except for one small section that stated "Impreza model". Seeing how the two car are brothers I cant see that this would result in this problem.
