  1. I know there are many folks modifying their EA82-chassis Subarus for style or performance. Miata shocks with coilover sleeves, legacy and impreza coilover kits, etc. These all require some level of modification to install, an issue I've recently run into with my own project car. This lead me to develop a few parts to allow a bolt-in installation of a set of coilovers to the EA82 chassis. Without going into specifics my thought is a 12-piece kit to retrofit a set of coilovers for a legacy or late-model impreza coilover kit that would allow you to simply bolt the legacy/impreza parts to your 5-lug-swapped EA82, without cutting, drilling or welding anything, reusing all your original hardware. My question is, is this something that would interest you? I'm currently prototyping parts for myself, but if there is enough interest, I'll have some extras made at the same time. I've got a few photos up on my Instagram page: @templeoffuji
  2. Hi All! We just got our second Soobie. The first is a gorgeously rusted '93 Loyale that we've had for almost 2 years despite its ... "condition." (Someone told me it's like a nice pair of worn jeans). This 2001 Forester is awesome! Engine is strong and the clutch is brand spankin new. It has some mods because we got it some a city boy who lowered it, put on a different bumper (from an outback?), heavily tinted the windows, larger wheels (17s), and added a beefy resonator. You can hear this thing 4 blocks away. We're looking to use it in the FOREST (and desert). First item on the agenda is to raise it back up. I'm a Youtube and Ultimate Subaru mechanic, so I took it to the shop to see what they would suggest (and to get a quote). The shop said the previous owner just swapped out strut assemblies, so the job is easy enough: get some quick struts and swap em back. Instead of paying them $1500 to do the job, I figured I can do it myself with inexpensive parts. My questions are these: 1.) If I get some quick struts from ebay or elsewhere (www.tiny.cc/quickstruts), is it easy to swap out without using a spring compressor? 2.) Instead of stock-size quick struts, if I wanted to raise it up just an inch higher, are there quick struts that will do that for me (I read on another thread that raising up to 2" higher doesn't need extra work)? 3.) Should I find stock 15" wheels to replace these 17"s? Thanks for any help and advice!
  3. Is it true that you can use Mazda Miata rear shocks to lower the rear of an ea81? I have a fwd hardtop, so I can't just adjust the trailing arm to lower it.
  4. Hi, just picked up a 92 Legacy for cheap($250) running/driving, no immediate issues or problems. Except who ever had it before the guy I got it from had cut the springs to lower it & its a rough ride. My mission is to just fix it up a little bit and turn it for a profit then hopefully do it again, but here's my question: OEM Springs are a little more then cheap-o Ebay coilover sleeves, so I wanted to know what ya'll thought about putting 'em to the stock shocks without lowering them? Cause the sleeves are cheaper than the springs & since Im selling it it then gives the new owner a choice of ride height, tho it'd be sacrificing quality of ride. To each his own I suppose. That being said what, Whats your opinion/feelings on the subject? Thanks in advance
  5. Hey guys, just wanted to see if anyone had input or experience regarding this bearing/washer combo I came across whilst googling. I have a car with cheap coil sleeves installed on stock struts, and I'm doing a bit of troubleshooting. By the way, I am aware that that last sentence contains atrocious words(cheap coil sleeves, stock struts).. Words that only a young man with a microscopic budget would utter. Try to get past that before you bust the flamethrower out. SO, the car in question has a pretty bad case of "coil-bind" or "spring bind." That's not really a common term, so if you haven't heard of it, here's what I know: we're obviously talking about a macpherson strut setup here, so the strut and spring turn when the steering wheel turns. My springs get hung up somehow, if you get what I mean. There is tension in the steering wheel, particularly when stopped and turning the wheel. The tension builds and "pops," which is audible both inside and outside the car, and can be felt in the steering wheel. The "binding" doesn't just happen when stopped, so say you come to a stop and turn the car 90 degrees to the right. The springs don't want to rotate smoothly, and they make a little pop noise as you crank the wheel. The car now pulls to the right, as the spring doesn't want to rotate back to it's normal position after the turn is complete. They are square end springs, I feel as if the issue is pretty clear(in my head) and the base of the spring is just not rotating properly, particularly since it's under so much pressure. These roller thrust bearings I came across seem like they could be a solution. If not a complete fix, maybe they would "reduce the symptoms" a bit. Has anyone seen this in action on a car, or really anything in real life? I think the consensus will be that I should buy some and try it out, but I just wondered if any of you physics-inclined folks would have valuable input. I would appreciate it, and do flame on if you feel it is necessary. 6. My question here is can you use kyb struts for stock replacement but use a shorter spring to get even just an inch lower? if so is there a spring I can get or would it be alright to just cut the stock springs? This is a 82' 4WD GL. also what about the back? I know I can adjust the torsion bar but idk where its sitting at the moment and if it will get low enough to match the front.
