  1. Hey guys i have a 97 subaru impreza l sedan and i want to make it my daily racer. I have an ej22 but im not sure which type i know its not a ej22g because its turboless(for now) and i need a new rear drive line but i want to change it to the glory of the standard trans.. HELP PLEASE!!
  2. picked up a great '87 GL wagon with only about 30k miles on it last winter. engine was pretty clean, no real fluid leaks, was working great till a couple months ago. when i started her up cold, and just pulled away from the curb, she wouldn't shift into 2nd gear unless i let her warm up a little, and run through the gears a couple times while still parked. after that, she'd shift fine and the problem wouldn't happen again till she's parked and cold. this car's body is in pretty good shape, has manual locks and windows and runs great otherwise, sans some front end alignment that needs to be adjusted and i hope to drive her into the next century so really looking at getting to the bottom of this. seems like the trans fluid isn't circulating until it's warmer and thinner, possibly? gonna drain it and put in a new filter and new fluid, WHAT TYPE AND HOW MUCH, EXACTLY, do you use? maybe as treatment fluid of some kind can be added w/ the new fluid? heard a few different answers and suggestions, but can always count on the USMB for delivering the best advice. thanks, Glen.
  3. My daughter has a 2000 forester with an automatic that she wasnt to swap a manual into. I realize that this isn't a difficult job, but I just want to be sure that I have all my ducks in a row before she gets back from deployment. I need a tranny, diff, drive shaft, shift linkage, hydraulic clutch parts and the pedal box. I also need a clutch and fly wheel. Am I missing anything? Are there any issues that I might run into? Thanks in advance. Mike
  4. Speedo Cable to Trans, remove how? 79, EA81 wagon 4WD, 4sp dual range manual transmission. The Speedometer Cable has a rubber/plastic boot which I have slid upward to expose a ~1/2 diameter collar then a hex fitting which a 17mm fits onto loosely. the 17 mm hex is about 1" long and seems to be made of plastic although it's blacked by crud and doesn't seem to clean up with penetrating spray. When I turn the 17mm Hex counterclockwise as viewed from above it seems to flex but NOT UNSCREW. If it's plastic I may break it or strip any plastic threads going into the transmission. How does the cable come out??
