DOCH EJ25 in Swingback/Leone possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just got my hands on a 78 Hatch. I'm thinking about swaping 1996 EJ25 DOHC into it. Is it possible without chassis modification as I want to keep the chassis original? If the answer is no then can I use the SOHC head and manifold from EJ16/18/22 to reduce the overall width?

I will appreciate any comment.

No, it won't fit without cutting the frame rails a lot, if you can even get it in there. You might even have to notch the rails a bit for the sohc.

Yes, you can put the sohc phase 1 heads on the 2.5 dohc phase 1 block, but it will raise the compression.

Thanks. The raise in compression ratio is what I'm looking for. I want about 11:1 CR. Is EJ25 block wider than EJ22 block? If yes, can anyone tell me how much wider?

Are you sure you have a 78 Hatch? Perhaps it is a 1980's hatch?

It is my understanding EJ engines will fit far easier in 1980's model Subaru's (...and I have never seen a 1978 Hatch:)).

I not so sure. I thought it's 78, but I might be wrong. It may be 80s like you said.
