To give you an idea, here is a map of the course they ran last year. I'm told that this year's course will be very similar.

Certainly does look like fun. Brings back memories of the Icekhana series put on by Taconic Autosports Club back in the "day." I'm not sure if they're still doing it but it was usually a 6 week series every Sunday on a course set up on a frozen lake. Not head to head racing but more like an autocross event. I wasn't very good, but I had a great time.

I too would love to run in a [narrowly plowed] challenging solo time trial type ice event some day again, but they are now rare in the northeast. The only downside to them though, is the lack of seat time. In wheel to wheel racing everyone gets lots of seat time.

Seems very interesting. Provided some more information about this, so that we can know in better way.

Here's the latest message from Casey Creamer of the CNYIRA:

It's time to get those cars ready.

CNYIRA will be holding their first event of the 2010 Ice Racing season on

Saturday January 16'th at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY.

http://blackrockspeedway.net/

So far the racing surface at Black Rock Speedway's famed Dirt Road Course is in great shape. At the moment there is snow on it and the ground is well frozen. The track should be smooth and fast.

Of course because we are so weather dependent, that can change between now and then.

Just like last year, there will be no studs allowed.

And like last year, CNYIRA will be providing food for all, catered by Terrie

Sautter, who happens to be the undisputed winner of last years chili

cook-off that was held at this same event last year. Will she make chili,

or something else? That is up to her.

Registration will start at 8:30 am

Short Practice (depending on track conditions) will start at 9:00 We may opt out of practice if needed to preserve our racing surface.

Racing by 10:00 am

Lunch when we feel like it, or when Terrie is ready.

We will end the event when conditions are not suitable such as not enough light, people or cars are tired out, track wears out etc..

If you are coming to race with us, you will need to become a member of

CNYIRA and you will have to fill out an event form.

Membership and event forms can be found at

http://cnyira.com/cnyirajoin.html

Please fill them out and bring them with you to registration.

As usual there will be classes for Street Legal, and also all of the Menard

classes, even though Menard cars will be on studless tires just like

everyone else.

As for you solo minded autocrossers and solo rallycrossers, now is your

chance to bring your car out and have some real fun. For those who ran in the SCCA Rallycross at Black Rock this summer, this will be just about the

same only not as dusty, a bit colder, oh, and did I mention there will be

cars in front, behind, and next to you. Not to worry. We have a strictly

enforced no touch policy for our Street Legal class.

If anyone has any questions, you can email me at ca...@senecasaw.com or

call 607-546-5887.

See you soon,

Casey

This in from CNYIRA:

I am sorry to report that due to current warm weather we have to cancel/postpone the land based ice race at Black Rock Speedway.

The concern is that we would tear up the racing surface too much. Nobody really wants a mud fest, and even more important we don’t want to burn any bridges at Black Rock by causing too much damage to their track.

As you all know, ice racing is quite weather dependant.

For the moment we will shoot for having the event next weekend Saturday 1/23/10 if the weather cooperates. There is also a possibility that Honeoye or Waneta will be ready by then. So this will give you procrastinators a chance the get your cars ready.

Any questions, feel free to call me at 607-546-5887.

Please spread the word to those who might not have a chance to check their email between now and Saturday.

Casey
