91,93,94 Legacys
Are all generation one Legacy AWD Automatic trannys compatable from year to year. I feel my auto tranny in my 91 AWD sedan is on its way out, and I hate the way it shifts, compared to my 93 AWD Automatic. I would like to find a 93 or 94 automatic AWD to swap in. Would it be a simple bolt up or would their be other issues to deal with. This tranny really sucks the life out of the engine, which only has 27k original miles on it (got it out of an old mans car which was wrecked) Tranny has 110k on it. Not to mention the tranny has the notorious clutch binding which comes and goes but is happening more frequent now. The car is in great condition for a 91, no rust, shiny paint, only a few dings, so its worth keeping. Thanks for the inputs.
Legacy777
yeah they are swappable. Remember though that there may be some programming differences in the TCU's between the different years, and that may give you some of the differences in how the tranny reacts. mudrat79
I too had to swap a tranny.... I have a perfect 97 tranny and I wanted to stuff it in a 91 Sedan also......Dealer said it wasn't do-able...... Only difference I found in the 2 is the speedo cable.....On the 91 its mechanical....on the 97 its Electronic, but the electro part of it is outside the trans... so it is just a bolt on Good luck with your's, Be carefull, they are very heavy.... later, John in Oregon......
