I was cleaning my valve covers before I put them back on the EJ25, and noticed that one of the covers was damaged.

 

It looks kinda weird, doesn't look like it got hit by something.... maybe heat ?

 

Take a look. They still look ok from the inside, so I'll still use them.

I actually noticed it when I ran a rag over the cover and it got caught by the edges of the cracks...

What *it* is, is flashing or ridges in the die-cast part caused by cracks in the dies used in the casting process. All die-casting dies get this was somewhere sooner or later because of the heat and pressure of the die-casting process. No problem in the parts generally. Sand 'em down & polish or bead blast 'em! You could even paint them with that black crackle paint to put the BMW's to shame!
