Roger Stokes
I`m changeing out all the wheel bearing in my 2001 forester. I noticed the cv boots on the inner front are split so as I`m inspecting them I noticed a slit play in and out of the outer cv joint not any play in twisting it back and forth though. Is this standard to have a slit play in and out? They were changed about 40,000 miles ago. Thanks, Roger
idosubaru
Sounds normal to me. Reboot them, the inners fails due to heat from the exhaust i believe. Wish they'd come up with better boots. I rebooted newish axles last year (split due to a lift), they had been vibrating terribly and i destroyed them for 4,000 miles - rebooted and they've been smooth as silk since! Good axles are quite robust.
