fitting hitachi electric choke to weber carb

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've bought the 32/36 weber which was a DGAV (Aqua or water choke) but intend converting to electric choke.

Just wondering if anyone has tried swapping or modifying the hitachi electric choke to fit the weber and what advice they could share in doing so.

Have priced the weber electric choke to fit and a local guy wants to charge NZ$120.00 for the part only (imported ex-UK). I've got a spare Hitachi Electric choke carb, have removed the mechanism and aside from needing an adaptor plate to fit to the weber the operation looks almost identical. So chances are high that this should swap over and work as required on the weber.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/help/suggestions.

If you give it some thought.... the water choke actually tracks engine temp. The electric choke simply tracks with the choke heating element which depends on how long it's been on - it doesn't know if the engine is running or just the ignition is on.... etc. And even if you hook it to a tach-signal controlled relay it's still not tracking engine *temp* just whether it's running or not.

The only drawback to the water choke is the extra hoses and properly routing them.
