Ziptie Rally makeovers complete

Recommended Posts

So, last May we had a rally based out of Park Rapids, MN. Carl entered a corner too fast, threw the car sideways to bleed off speed, but still hit the outer embankment at close to 100mph. They wound up a ways down the road facing the wrong direction.....and sore.

They both walked away, the roll cage did it's job, but the whole unibody was tweaked.

We got home, and the car entered the garage like this:

Couple weeks later, it was on the trailer, looking like this, and ready to head off to the farm:

And, this arrived (actually, it arrived a couple weeks before the shell was stripped....but whatever)

you sir are a subaru god.

Haha, thanks. But I am just one of about 10 people who donated a lot of time and knowledge to make these projects happen.

Looks great! Need any pit volunteers or something for any upcoming rallies? I live in St. Paul, but saw that the team is based out of Golden Valley. Recently been getting into RallyCross, and volunteering for stage rallies seems like a great way to start meeting people.

PM me if you or someone else on the ziptie team wants an additional volunteer. I'm free for garage work as well, but I assume you have plenty of volunteers for that ;-)

Matt, sorry I'm too technically challenge to reply to your friend request. Drop me a PM with an email address and I'll respond off board until you get your minimum 10 posts in (to receive PMs). I was pleased to see I did survive in PA even though I didn't think I did as well as I should. Very pleased that my wife finished third in PA. She was my driver back in the day when we did fast gravel TSD events; she's getting her technique back pretty quickly. Glad to see you and Keira got the most out of my old Impreza.

With the help of a very nice MN DNR officer, along with his superiors, and the local sheriff, we were able to use a small (~3miles) Dead-end road not too far away (no, I won't say where) to do some testing at-speed.

And a big thanks to Angled Lines for taking some great video clips, and putting together a sweet video of the new car. Check it out!

Don't forget to bump up the video quality in YouTube, all footage was taken in 1080p!

watched full video.

I am nitt picky, should have gloves on and a full fire retardant suit.....just my advice.

didn not have fire suit on...

Good eye, no we did not use the full safety gear. Because we were not going 100%. This was to make sure our DBW software issue was resolved, and the new suspension was set up well. And for some publicity photo runs. Very much like a press stage at a national rally (fire suits not required there either).

In fact, most of the runs were with the crew/photogs in the codriver seat, I don't think any of us tried to read the notes.

Ooh cool how difficult is that?

201106181718-L.jpg

It's a project to be sure. The old paint and seam sealer has to be stripped off. Which is a major PITA in some places.

Weird. I know I replied to the midwest couple I met at the Primitive Rally School last year. But I apparently dropped this into the wrong thread. I'm not sure how I did that. Sorry.

Really cool thread regarding your rally car rebuild. Best of luck for this year's season.
