1986 GL Coupe Restoration Project

Still have not got the collector plates, have no time or money to work on it :(

hope someone buys my 92 wagon so I'll have come cash to fix the axles, small body dents, a bit of rust and paint scratches.

I have a dual range and diff, is it worth converting from FWD or should I keep it stock? 

130,000 Kilometers, is only 80,778 Miles not bad for a 27 year old car.

I swapped the rear speakers for new, much better sound now.

anyone know how many coupes were produced? how common are they in North America now?

this is my GL Coupe, It's in great shape very clean and same owner for 25 years.

It has minor rust and some small dents and scrapes. It was a city car hardly ever driven, running poorly, terrible lifter tick, full of carbon.

after some treatment in the fuel and oil then a hard drive on the highway the carbon is burned out now.

Interior still smells like smoke even after steam cleaning, needs ozone treatment.

 

all that I have done so far;

-oil and filter change

-fuel and oil conditioner flush

-itallian tune up (drive at 4500 rpm for 30 minutes)

-full steam detail inside

-degrease engine compartment

-removed loose rust

-removed ugly blue pinstripes with auto body eraser

-pressure washed underside and wheels to remove grime and grit

-repaired and replaced small interior broken or missing trim parts

 

still needs;

-new axle

-main pulley and belts (pulley broken, only one belt channel

-steering dust boots look damaged

-rust repair and body work

-more steam cleaning

-ozone treatment for smoke

 

Wish list;

-sweet sexy wheels

-RX body kit

-LSD of course

-webber

-new speakers and aux audio in mod to factory radio

-convert to AWD (FWD 5spd now)

I've done the FWD to 4WD conversion on that exact car, mine is the coupe, it is a process, but, I can explain how to do it. I'll make a thread because I've never found one.

 

It's a photo of mine when it recieved a rebuilt motor and a pushbutton 4WD trans. The tough part is the rear-end, but, I'll put it all in my thread when everything is doen and compiled.

Worth it? yes. Youll need a pedal box, clutch/flywheel kit, and a 4wd gas tank though

Mine came with a 4wd gas tank. Just look under it and see if it has a hump that goes up into it where the pumpkin should be in the rearend. Never know when the factory didn't have FWD tanks and just stuffed a 4WD in there.
