Happy Thursday.

 

No problems involved with this thread.

Simply trying to identify where the rear diff. came from on my GL.

 

Correct me if it's stock... I don't believe it is.

 

'87 GL Wagon - converted to AWD.

Stock hub drilled to 6-lug.

 

Rear diff p# 722011002

Gear ratio - 4.111

 

Now, which differential w/ that part number and ratio out of the bag, would work with the original hubs of the GL?

6 lugs is not stock.

are you sure it's an LSD diff?

 

4.11 is found in newer generation differentials - legacy, impreza, outback.

 

manual transmissions are 3.9 or 4.11 - most 2.5 liter manual transmission models are 4.11

 

01-04 (and later) H6 transmissions are 4.11 - and they all have LSD rear differentials (VLSD type).

 

No automatic 2.5 liters are 4.11

 

there are gear ratio charts, inspect those.

subaru's opposed forces website may help.

95-99 Automatic Legacies had 4.11

 

If it doesn't say LSD or VLSD on it, it most likely is not a Limited Slip.

 

Most New gen VLSDs don't have a sticker, but they would have the "Female" axle recievers, not stubs.  Stubs built into the axle.  So if you've got your stock cups, and no sticker, you likely have no LSD

 

If the sticker just says 4.11, its probably a first Gen legacy diff (either90-94 manual or 90,91 Auto).....which have the same type stub setup as the old gen stuff so they are a direct bolt in.

Jack up the back of the car. Turn one wheel, if the other wheel turns opposite, you have an open diff. If it turns the same direction, it is an LSD. This is assuming ea82 hardware which is technically part time 4wd, or full time 4wd (awd with an open center diff)

 

..Unless you are telling us you have an ej trans in there.

I like the idea of jacking up the back. Hadn't thought of that. Good call.

That'll tell me what's inside.

I'll do that tomorrow, not home tonight.

 

Now - what can I take from what the car is, what the tranny is, the numbers claimed on the diff, and the stock (but drilled) hubs?

And... Aftermarket drive shaft. *cough*

Is the front REAR of an EA82 Turbo 25 spline? 

 

I would like to take a LSD rear diff pumpkin from ab  88 GL Turbo  and put it into my 82 brat.   

I realize i would have to swap the ring and pinion to make it 3.9 ratio.

 

Then it occurred to me that the diff my not accept my axels. :confused:

 

What would be involved???
