2 problems, rattling front end & Drops oil pressure when idling 82 GL Wagon 4X4

Recommended Posts

I have an 82 GL Wagon 4X4 ans since I have owned it it has ran strong but the oil pressure drops to almost nothing when it is idiling for a minute, what could the problem be? Also the front end has started making a kinda rattling/cluncking noise when cruising between 1500-2000 RPM's (4th gear driving 35-40 MPH) my steering boot started leaking a while ago so i am going to replace it this weekend, could it  possibly be the tie rod where it connects into the rack? or would it be in the CV axel / transmission connection?post-47796-0-54879000-1399069336_thumb.jpg

The factory oil pressure gauges are notoriously inaccurate. The first step would be to verify what your oil pressure really is with a mechanical gauge. Could be the gauge, could be the sending unit. Actually having low oil pressure would be indicative of bigger problems obviously.

Is the clicking rythmic relative to speed? Or random? CVs is the first thing that comes to mind.

ok ill try that out, is it possible that the trans axel splines would be wearing out? Doesnt make much sence but it feels like it almost and goes away with power, however it cluncks when driving over bumps so tie rod ends an ball joints.

Thank you for your help
