carfreak85
I'm wondering what the spline count is on the front differential stub shafts of an XT6 transmission. Will EA81 axles slide right on, or do I need to swap out the stub shafts for EA81 parts?
Crazyeights
They (XT6) are the same as the EA82 Turbo or 25 splines. I have swapped in standard EA82 23 spline stubs from a dead "push-button" 5 speed donor. It has worked well for 7 years so far in my EJ swapped '83 GL.Wagon. idosubaru
+1 same as EA82T highly unlikely, you're probably talking about a manual trans, but if it's an automatic the stub shafts just pop right out, only held in place with a circlip, and they can be swapped easily. BUT, there are no direct 23-spline options for the 4EAT. The only way to get a Subaru auto with 23-splines is the 3AT, which use the same stubs as the MT. The only difference between them is the groove for the circlip/snapring....so a skilled lathe operator could modify a pair of 23-spline MT stubs to work in place of the 4EAT stubs (I have a pair of stubs modified in just such a manner on my workbench).
carfreak85
Ok, good to know. Besides the 3.900 final drive on the XT6, is there any substantive differences in gearing between a FT4WD 5MT XT6 transmission and an FT4WD RX 5MT? Numbchux
Yea. They're the same as a PT4WD EA82 trans. Same 1st gear, other 4 are all a bit taller. It will yield lower cruising rpms in 5th than the 3.7 RX trans.
carfreak85
I can't seem to find the old gear ratio chart for the old school chassis. Anyone still got the link?

carfreak85
Hmmm, that doesn't seem to show the EA82 S/R 5 speed trans, or the XT6 trans either...
