How much $ would you pay for a distributor to fit EJ ?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if one of us, some of us, or mostly all of us are too thrifty to pay much for a distributor to whack on the back of an EJ with correct cam slot to run an EJ in an EA series vehicle

Where would your wallet snap shut to have a used item delivered to your door that may need new points condensor, cap and rotor?

Wow, glad someone came out of the woodwork with that 36 tooth idea, thanks. I priced a new megajolt kit ....it might be a consideration once I was convinced ej was better than my EA82 Mongrel and the one I get is deserving of money spent

Tell you what, it would also help using the Mk of the Ford Escort the dizzy is from whenever it is quoted.

Is it Mk 4 Escort? Just UK market?

On the megajolt was told it needs to be a 36 minus1 trigger wheel. Is that what later models use? And a reference to what year that later model is would also help

OK one vote for zip, zilch, nada

trivial for Elite Master Status yeah

I am not going to really be able to use petrol, not even sure it has a fuel tank underneath. Propane or LPG has enough pressure in the tank so no pump required unless I went liquid injection

OK I understand constant 12V (battery 12V+) , switched 12V (IGN +), does the ECU provide pos or neg switching to fuel pump ?

and where is this start signal, something from the starter motor solenoid that changes status from start to running ?

Megajolt I think is derived from mega squirt I think using only the ignition portion and their custom software. In the case of MS, the wheel that works is 36-2-2-2 but it works fine with the right settings. If you look up the crank sprocket for a 2004 USDM WRX then you'll get the right part. It was used in many others dating back to as early as 1999

Thanks for spelling it out Matt

When I first saw 36-1 had no idea, then a guess was the -1 stood for a cog that started life as 36 equally spaced teeth on it, due to a full revolution being 360 degrees, divide by ten, punch out a tooth for TDC or timing degrees before TDC, still to work out

So, a 36-2-2-2 has three sets of two teeth missing equally spaced ?

There aint no L Series harness in B3 . Sorry I confuse the heck out of people most of the time. This is my 89 Brumby running the Mongrel EA82 LPG and 22* of advance static. Cant knock an EA82 until you try that ! Pretty certain this EJ is gonna be a closet runner in a custom made box, once running, just sit there until I am ready. All this started coz of bloody Giles wanting a few EA81 spares, cant get to those until poo boxe Commodes and this Lib are out of the way, then another twenty cars or so before I can get at the depths of this 440 m2 mancave for the other EA81 wagon, 16 vehicles jammed in the front yard - mostly cripples and invalids

NZ is relatively next door to you and they got carbed EJ16's in the early 90's which came stock with a distributor.

That may be true but our design laws can be very different to NZ. Subaru Australia calls the shots as to what is offered and what is not. Eg: we didn't get the L series RXII coupe, or any L series coupe for that matter :( NZ did.

NZ also hasn't had a local car manufacturing industry for a very long time and have relied on imports. I believe this includes second hand imports. They have MANY exotic JDM delivered goodies that we never got from factory over here.

And whe they're close to us it's very costly to import vehicles in to Oz personally. Laws make it hard and it seems everyone on the docks/wharfs has a hand in your wallet if a vehicle is imported.

Forget the carb'd EJ factory unit. I'd be going for the RXII coupe if could ever import something.

Cheers

Ok so hook it into the MY harness, it doesn't matter what it's going into you need to have the EJ harness meet the converted vehicles harness at some point!

Just go the efi and see what it's like, then judge it.

Cheers

I keep reading that Oz get carbed EJ's too !

I think more than a few Aussies have searched high and lows of NZ for these, no evidence yet!

Hate the smell of petrol Bennie, no petrol tank is confirmed in one, hate to think how bad the other utes tank is - not seen petrol in ten years !

Gas is nice n torquey down low :)

Still, might have to cobble a jerry can up to it to make it work, then work backwards to propane it.

Guru Greg will help:)
