EA81 4WD, can leaky oil from oil pan gasket migrate to clutch housing?

Recommended Posts

I just did a clutch replacement on a 1984 4WD GL.

I replaced the rear main engine seal, and the orange gasket featured in this video

It looks like the oil pan gasket is leaking, and also I have some oil in the clutch housing.

Can oil leaking from the oil pan gasket migrate up into the clutch housing?  The bottom of the clutch bell housing is open.   I am hoping it can, it would be an easy fix.  Otherwise, I am looking at fixing a leak in the transmission.

I've never touched one of those little or age seal things in the back of the crank on an ea81. I've always been told to leave them.

Are you sure the rear seal was put in correctly? I've never heard of a sump gasket saturating the clutch in oil.

And I've usually found the oil pump is the culprit as the reason for an oil saturated sump gasket. Not saying that the sump gasket will never leak, just that it's worth investigating the oil pump thoroughly.

Cheers
