An "a-traktor" a modified car that only  can drive 30km/h on the highest working gear and must drive no faster than 10km/h on the lowest gear when engine is running 2/3 of its full rpm.
15 year olds are allowed to drive them so they are common here in the north.

I will use the 1990 Brat and put in an ea82 wtih 5sp and dualrange with locking centerdiff.

In the rear I will use the transaxle from a volvo 340.

With this set up I can put the rear gearbox in first gear and at the same time have the front gearbox in first low gear.

Since the centerdiff is open the car will adapt to the lowest gear in the rear and that will make it meet the regulations for registering.

After registration the rear gearbox will always be in fourth gear wich is 1:1.
The frotn gearbox will have only 1-3 and reverse working.
I will have an electronic speedregulator that cuts power to the ignition coil when it reaches 30km/h.

It will make 30km/h  at appr 1700 rpm on third gear high.
This allows for full rpm usage on lower gears until speed hits 30.

Does this sound strange?
Its a Swedish thing....

Question:

Will the brat/Leone axles fit or must I modify them?

Is the 5 speed wider than the 4 speed?

5 speed diff is same width as the 4 speed.

ea81 axles will fit IF you open the AWD locking centre diff box and swap the diff stub axles with that from a PT4wd 5 speed box. Then it's plug and play. Otherwise modify the ea81 shafts/axles to fit to the 25 plume diff stubs.

I don't see the point in the rear gearbox.  If you're using the centre diff to "equalise" the drive front to rear you're running the risk of chewing out the rare locking centre diff.

Thow up some pics of the build when you can ;)

Cheers

Bennie
