EA71 head gasket??

Recommended Posts

Had head gasket go out in driveway. Didn’t get hot because I didn’t drive it far. So wasn’t concerned with warping. Put in new gaskets, torqued in sequence. I think it was 22 ft lbs, then 27 up to 42. Replaced intake gaskets as well. Stated up...still blew steam. Pulled plugs/ coolant in all cylinders :(

soooo was head warped? It so wouldn’t I just have coolant in cylinders in affected side? If intake or carb gaskets bad, how much coolant would I loose? Cause it drained quite a bit from radiator pretty quick.

need “short” term fix, maybe double gasket until I can get heads machined??

am I missing anything??

FRUSTRATED

I’ve never heard of doubling a headgasket.

Most likely intake gaskets as mentioned. Cheaper to try those first.

Heads shouldn’t be warped but can’t tell from here. There’s an archive of a backyard way to get slight warpage out if it comes to that and if you want to try the DIY method.

To me , the vacuum of the intake is why it drank so much from the radiator.

I’ve had intake gaskets go on an 1800 ohc and same thing - lost lots of coolant and sent me into a panic thinking h/g’s .
