Ej22 into xt

Recommended Posts

I did the ej22 swap into my 86 gl and couldn't be happier...10k miles and murdering jeeps and maximas ha

I have a good ej22 -naturally aspirated, for my 85 xt but I would like to put the turbo parts from the ea82 on the ej. I have a crossover pipe that fits the ej ports, can I use the existing up pipe?

Can I use the oil pressure gauge sensor to  use for oil feed/

I have read that the factory ecu can handle small amounts of boost I plan on keeping boost around 8 or 10 psi,

What is the factory boost for the ea81t? that car is a good amount of fun to drive and the ea runs well but stumbles a bit at times...maybe I can find her a new home but I don't imagine there is a ton of demand for this engine, but I did sell my old carb ea82 so who knows? I plan on messing with her a bit more to see if she can get past emissions to get the collectors plates, then I can really take my time with the swap.

Thanks for the advice, this is my first turbo project. I would like to eventually lower her for autocross and what not

someone else will guide you more accurately but I'm pretty sure you need to keep it around 5-7psi and I'm not sure how much of a stellar choice the EA82 turbo's are..

did you need to space between any mounts or cross members to fit the EJ22 and clear the underside of the bonnet ?

Looks very clean and tidy

Does the bonnet release work ? I'd love to see a pic of the EJ in the engine bay ....

You’ll need an “EJ” spec turbo. Something like the small TD04 should do the job nicely.

Mid you’re looking at 8-10 psi you’ll probably want to swap pistons over to turbo units. Also look at intercooling, as this will help with detonation ;)

Ive not done it but a mate has boosted an EJ22e with a SC14 supercharger and runs 5psi with an intercooler. It’s pretty awesome/scary for a permanent front wheel drive!  Goes awesome off-road too!

Cheers

The 85 xt still has her factory ea82t

The ej swap was in my 86 GL and to answer your question the engine dropped right in with no modifications

I understand the xt is the same frame and suspension setup as the ea82 cars so I'll be happy if the swap goes half as smooth.

And I am trying to slap the turbo setup on as quickly and cheaply as possible, I have 2 IHI turbos that came factory on ea82s

I misread as you already got EJ in the XT

Word is you need to space the front castor bar bracket further from the body to clear underside of bonnet

Your EJ looks to be free from AC and PS. I just measured up an EJ20 alternator only drive belt to be about 5PK700 and luckily that is a size available

My project is EJ20 into std height EA81 Brumby

Hmmm, I'll do a little more research on the subject and look into the hood clearance thing.

Oh and a fan belt from a 96 or something ford escort works perfect for ej swap with no power steering or ac.
