Good cooling fan replacement

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

I use aftermarket a 10" and a 12" toghether on an Stock EA81 radiator cooling the EJ22 in my wheeler.

If you buy 2 good quality aftermarket fans, it will work fine.  $40-65 each...........from Napa, not $10 ebay fans.

But DO NOT use the stupid pull through mounting plastic tabs.  These put the fan right against the radiator and vibrations will cause the fan to rub intot he soft brass radiator and make a hole.  Or they will break, because they are cheap plastic tabs.

take time to build a metal frame that bolts into the OE mounting holes.  1/4" bolt heads slip nicely into the mounting slots.  Those bolts can then either be welded or threaded into a piece of angle iron top and bottom.  then that angle bolted to the radiator face's OE holes.

The ea81 fan is smaller than ea82?

I ask because the biggest flat rate box is $17 to ship I can see how an ea82 fan fits...

I placed a reader for a mechanical temp gauge where the plastic plug goes for ea82 radiator and for a long time I just air flow cool my car. It's fine for the street so I would do that until your fan situation is in order. It is a bummer cause you can't go off roading.

My car is getting too hot at long lights. I kinda need to have a fan. I commute 25 miles one way, going average of 60.

The plug is cut off. I thought this fan was off my Brat. Might not have been. I salvaged some parts off an EA81 station wagon many years ago. If you don't mind splicing your plug on I do have the fan. I will check it with my 12v jump pack to make sure it runs and has no issues.

Yes, fan works!

Okay. I work 12 hour shift and start days tomorrow. Would not be able to get it out until Weds. If that is okay with you. I live in the sticks so we only have a small rural post office. Last time I was in there they did not even have a large flat rate box, only medium and small. If they don't have the large do you need the housing if the fan motor and blade would fit in a medium? Your fan the exact same as the one I posted? Just trying to cover the bases, lol! You can private message me you address. I took a few second video of the fan running if you would like it emailed to you? You can private message me your email too if you would like the small video. Figure maybe 5-6 dollars and the shipping.
