Scoby4wd
My 83 Wagon (4wd, AT) doesnt downshift when I floor it. Trans seems to work fine otherwise. Not too familiar with how kickdown works on these, anyone can offer me any troubleshooting tips?? John
DaveT
On the slightly newer EA82 powered cars, there is a micrswitch on the gas pedal mechanism. Check to see that it gets tripped by flooring it. If it does, check the wiring. I am gussing a bit, that the 83 might be similar.
Steptoe
I have had one auto 84 EA81 sedan and I think it also had this micro switch at accelerator pedal. It may be switching earth or positive so keep this in mind as you check

Scoby4wd
Turns out the floormat was in the way of the pedal traveling far enough to touch the microswitch. kickdown works fine now. Glad it was an easy fix. Wouldnt have found that if I didnt know the microswitch was on the pedal assembly so thanks.
Steptoe
Good one! I cut that corner out of floor mats and sometimes use an anti slip grip mat under floor mat. Amazing how many horsies those mats can take out of manual transmission too
