Wheel decisions.

Recommended Posts

When I bought the 1980 Brat DL it came with a set of extra tires in the back. Now that I’ve got the car starting I need to decide what ones I’m going to use as my main . Will either get them powder coated or just paint them not sure yet.  Are either of them more desirable than the others? Any info as always is appreciated. I’m going to drive you guys crazy with all the questions! Thanks again. It will be fun to share photos of her when I’m done . Need to try and find a current color code that matches the Subaru cashmere beige. The car was originally the mild yellow but I’m not the biggest fan. I believe the original owner took the filter cover to Home Depot and color matched painted the car with house paint . Haha it’s peeling off pretty easily.

From here neither if you want 100% originality.

The white flat spoked wheel is the one you want. But from here that appears to be a second generation wheel with the slight radius at the end of the spokes as they meet the rim. The first gen wheels are really flat straight out to the rim.

Nobody at a car show will likely notice or care.

Those wheels may require a plastic ring retainer for the centercaps. Those rings seemed to be available still last I heard.

Someone in the older-gen forum was asking about wheel options, and I posted up the link above. Nice site by McBrat showing different 4x140 wheels. In the top section it highlights the differences in spoke wheels.

1st gen Brat had lots of wheel options from the factory...

For Spoke wheels it could have come with the standard "rounded spoke" white wagon wheels, or the coveted Jackmans. Steel wheels were also an option for those not wanting to spend as much. Mag wheels were available for those that wanted to splurge.

It really depends on what look you want for the Brat...
