Having Trouble Removing EA81 Manifold

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

So I finally sourced an EA82 intake manifold to do a Weber swap because my Brat came with the 1 BBL Carter-Weber that needs to have either the Hitachi manifold or the EA82 manifold to allow the swap to be done. I am currently in the process of removing the EA81 intake manifold but I came across an issue. There is a pipe of some kind located near the EGR that is attached by one end to the manifold, and from what I can see it seems like there is no way that the manifold can be removed without the pipe being removed. However, I read in a different thread that this pipe I am seeing may possibly be pressed in and therefore should be left alone. I've tried removing it but it will not budge. Would anybody here have any suggestions and/or know what it is that I need to do to completely take off an EA82 manifold?

Thank you

That's the EGR pipe. You have to unscrew the fitting from the manifold. I'd soak it with some penetrating oil for a while before trying to remove it. They can be a bugger. The pipe gets seized in the fitting so the fitting won't turn. Sometimes you have to break out the smoke hatchet to get them free.
