Does anyone know if the transmission from a 1988 gl (dual range, AWD) will work in a 1988 gl (dual range FWD)? My assumption is no. DaveT Posted February 9, 2022 Share Posted February 9, 2022 At this age, finding one is a hill. All of mine are the 3AT 3 speed auto 4WD. all around 150K - 200K miles. None have had serious massive failures, except the one that was run with no differential oil for too long because of an unknown slow leak... Even that one, the transmission parts are still good. el_freddo Posted February 10, 2022 Share Posted February 10, 2022 If you find an EA82 AWD gearbox it will bolt in the same as any of the EA82 4wd gearboxes. Grab the solenoids off the LHS strut tower for the locked centre diff actuation. In these the front and rear diff ratios MUST be a match or you’ll stuff the centre diff - and this item is harder to find than one of these AWD gearboxes!
