Updated oddcomp's MS n' EDIS fuel/DIS

Got Mine yestereday!

 

Now I have sitting...ready to install on my XT Turbo:

 

1. Spider Intake

2. XT6 throttle body

3. Megasquirt

4. EDIS Parts

5. Wiring harness

6. Coolant and air temp sensors

 

Oddcomp - you ran everything through the factory harness? Sounds like a nice clean method. I have the complete harness from RS Autosport, so I'm debating which way to go....

 

Oh and hey..I'll need a IGN and Fuel MAP. Wanna send me one?

 

Can't wait to say goodbye to that f'in flapper door and old style manifold :drunk:

i can give you mcurrent code version with my current fuel and ignition

and then you cna figure it out from there and then update code after you write down things

if that help

 

That sounds good. I just need some baseline starting points. For example, I don't know the flow rate of the stock injectors...

 

Even a screenshot of your constants page(s) would give me a good start....

 

I just finished building my ignition/injection harness to connect the relay board to the motor. Super clean. 18 wires total!!! and I know exactly where everyone of them goes!!! I can't wait to rip out the stock wireing mess I currently have......

sooo, oddcomp, you going to make me one? if you do and manage to finda way to come out to the east coast in mid feb, ill buy you a 24 pack.i really want the whole setup now that ive read the thread. although i think that i should try to get the car inspected before i spend anymore money on upgrades. granted, i think ill have to at least upgrade the turbo before inspection just to get through. my stock turbo is blowing oil everywhere and the inlet hose is dead, all dried out and broke. this whole edis and ms thing should be sweet with what im going for with the rx.

 

hey garner, how goes the brat, i havent heard much about it in a while.

Yeah, and some tuner networks where when you get it installed, people can help you tune it (or tuner tunes it, like on a dyno). This would make it a very attractive product (on top of being cheap and having a wide range of tunability).

formyself invested is just alot of time and prolly all total around 300 maybe a bit more but thats at like 10-20 bux at a time for most of it and since i had the hard part of figuring out how to make it all work on the suby

 

 

as far as gains go .. wel complete and total tunability of your fuel and ignition if you go the ignition route

better economy once it is dialed in and your not playing around :)

way more power and response when you are getting busy

 

no more fuel cut from overboost

no morepicky air flow meter

the fact you can actually see whats going on and be able to potentially catch a problem before it gets bad

you can run the biggest baddest vent to atosphere scare people type of blow off valve if you wanted to

hehe

 

there are more but eh what do i know :)

OddComp, I'm totally sold on your system. I just feel like it'll be overwhelming to someone like me but I'll give it a try. I'd like to try it out on one of my XT6s since it's basically the test bed for what goes on XT6 #2. If I get the MS & EDIS setup, I'm going to have a TON of questions. Just thought I'd let you know. It may become annoying if I go through with it. :o Just warning you!

hell i built my ms half tanked when i was doing the soldering :)

it just look complicated

 

 

ps i can't even make a real sentance .... but i can do this.. so go figure...

Subyrally, this thread should be an inspiration but what you really aught to be reading is the MegaManual.

 

Anyone considering this, and I think you should, don't think you're just going to plug this thing in an take off. It's totally doable but no matter how much help anyone can give you, it is a DIY project. I think it is important to spend a bunch of time reading the manual (I know, I know, I don't usually read the manual) Even if you skip the assembly and buy a pre-built kit, the rest of the manual is crucial. Part of what makes this so cool is that YOU build it (or buy it, whatever) and YOU tune it. Not like my WRX friends that have to pay $100's an hour for dyno-tuning. But, if you are going to tune your own engine, you have to understand what is going on in the code and on your engine

 

As Shadow quoted above, I got mine running and even with a half rump roast VE table (important term) and a lot of tuning to do, the brat runs much better than it ever did on stock engine management. Start up is instant, idle quality is superb even with the Delta cams and low (around 850, I was never able to get it to idle stedily below about 1200) and pedal response is smooth. I have a few flat spots to tune out but for a first whack at it I am very very happy (excuse me, I must do this) :banana::banana::banana:

Oh well, I guess I'll looking forward to a lot of downtime and tuning. I need to learn about this stuff someday anyways. Good to read about your efforts and success. Dang, I got a dyno practically waiting for me to do a lot of tuning on.

actually if you have all teh parts and stuff

and since there are a few of us already with the important start up information

the downtime now.. is very minimal

i meah hell i did it to my daily driver that i drove to work and back

i went backwards really

since i did the ignition first

then injection

and working graveyard unlike you normal people .. i have even less time to work with

 

i am still wondering why almost none of the offroaders are not looking into this .. i mean they would have fuel delivery until they tip over and then some really lol

not to mention a lot more low rpm response for those rock crawling things

paranoid about reliability well build yourself a mpfi intake with a carb on it for throttle body

cut fuel to one system add fuel to the otehr and poof an easy way to have efi and incase of problems a way to get home

hmm i think 2 much

 

and i am no einstein he was good with numbers.... i am not

but i can tie my boots!

I would say to anybody out there tinking about doing this, if you take your time and are able to follow directions, do it. I have been contimplating this since I first saw it about a year and a half ago and have always been sort of hesistant. But after just ordering the kit and doing it and actually have it running in front of me I would say go for it. The assembly isnt that hard if you have some time and a cleanish area to work on it.

will the ms system work with the ejxx engines? im thinking that if it would work reliably with, lets say a legacy turbo engine, then i might be able to go through with the other plans i have for my rx, seeing that i am having issues with the ea82. if at all possible, i want to get ms on the rx either way.

hmmm, i might have hope then for my super overkill setup i want to eventually build. i am thinking about creating a monster turbo engine for the rx, im thinking about the same route as the impreza will eventually travel. im feeling the legacy turbo block, forged pistons, ported wrx heads, twin turbos, ic sprayer, bov, high performance cams, and a few other little goodies. not that i can afford it ath the moment, but i will eventually attempt overkill. hey, with the right amount of time and effort, anything is possible.

Been to the MS site myself a few times since someone here posted up the link to it about a year or so ago. I've read thru the Manual a couple of times, but I'm kinda at a loss just reading it. Thinking I need to "bite the bullet" and order me a kit, maybe having it in front of me will help. I kinda need the "hands on" thingy to go along with the reading part.

 

The more I read this thread, the more I'm thinking of doing this on the '82 BRAT when I get the ER-27 in there. Liking the idea more and more. MS-n-EDIS just sounds so much better than stock set up. I will have lots of questions when I do get to that point.

 

Actually, I have one now... What Ford model would I be looking for to get the EDIS off of for a 6 cylinder engine? Not up on current Ford models at all..

90's ish escorts

for the 4cyl edis module and coil packs

just about any edis vr sensor will work

also certain other coil packs willw ork pretty uch as long as its 3 wire dodge chevy .. subaru..

 

ect ect

 

the sorta local yards here usualy have all that stuff for pretty decent priced if anyone is hard pressed to find it local to them

Hey guys, I have a question. If I just want to run MS and use the stock ecu for ignition initially, what sensors does the stock ecu need to be working with? I have a reasonable knowledge of subaru EFI but not so good of the ignition.

 

This is for the SPFI in my wagon, but I'm also thinking of MPFI turbo in the future.
