I know this has sort of been covered before, But I would like to get some more information on some cheap mods I could do with the '87 RX That I hoping to get. Mods including performance/appearance welcome.

Shown in pic1

RX7 Top mount IC ~$20 on ebay

RX7 Recirculation valve - ~$5 on ebay

hoses and piping - From the RX7 and Dodgesubishi Starquest - $?

Manual Boost controller - ~$25 on ebay -~$10 DIY

Cone filter - $25 Autozone

Aluminum MAF adapter - $15.99 autozone

Various little crap to make it all work - ~$20

Theres a thread from within the past 24 hours that documents one users luch getting a cone filter and adapter off ebay for atoud $20 The filter sounds to be better quality than mine and the adapter is plastic.

Hood scoop- $30 on ebay (unpainted)

Only fabrication that had to be done was welding a small tube onto one of the IC pipes for the Recirc valve. Also had to drill out the end of the little pastic silencer on the MAF hose to plumb the recirc valve.

Also, effective hood scoop usage requires cutting a hole in the hood.

mine looks like this

All prices listed are estimates .. YMMV.. being the cheapskate that I am you can damn well bet I didn't pay that much

Its probably better to get an IC first, but I actually did the boost controller about 2 weeks before the IC.. with the IC you can run more boost.

Boost controoler takes about 10 minutes to install.. its not car specific

One important thing that I forgot to put on the list above.. boost gauge!!

One thing I cannot stress enough. If you are going to mod you motor, get it in tip top stock condition first.

maybe i am paranoid and depend on electronics to much

but do you really want to trust your boost to sumthing as simple and the spring in a pen? eventually it could corrod and sieze up i doubt it but... it could happen

it could jam up from contamination oil ect that subie's are known for leaking

stuff like that

they work fine and all from what i see

but eh i am paranoid on somethings :)

Yup, definately have to get the engine running better first. Doesn't idle too well, dies. Will probably need at least a tune up, altough I'm wondering if fuel system cleaner would help, because I guess it was sitting for a while, so it may just need to be cleaned out a bit. I definately like the sound of it though :brow: . Very Mean and agresive, although that might be because of a bad exaughst. I'm not sure. Its definately a car to work on.
