Surfdougyfresh
Has anyone rebuilt or repaired an A/C compressor? It sounds like a bearing is going on my '98 OBW compressor. Living in the Middle East, the AC is constantly on and I'd like to plan ahead so I'm not robbed at the local dealer!

It's been 30 years since I did A/C repair, so I can't remember if you have to depressurize system to change the clutch. And it's too dark for me to read the manual (2:30am local). Legacy777
They can be rebuilt, however unless you have a place that knows ac stuff and deals with rebuilding compressors on a regular basis, you're better off just getting another compressor. You can try and get a used compressor, and then when the current dies, just put the used one in. Flush the system, replace the receiver/dryer, add oil, pull a vaccum, and recharge the system.
