1980 GL 1600 Fuel tank interchange

Recommended Posts

can i get a bigger tank? cause 20 mpg with a 10 gallon tank is not gonna cut it, if i can get a 15.9 to bolt right in that would be great, but i don't know if the EA-81 tanks are the same as the EA-82 tanks, cause the EA-82 tank is the only one i have, but its still attached to the 88 wagon.

If not i'll be pricing out fuel cells, should be interesting going into a speed shop and asking if one will fit in the back of my subaru, "no not a WRX" it should get a laugh.

The tanks are different, but with your lift you might be able to do it without problems. Or you could get a EA81 tank from a 2wd car.

85sub4wd, I wouldnt put to much faith in your Haynes manual. They have been known to be wrong, on quite a few occasions.

Oh, I am not putting any faith in it - I said they LOOK similar (If I had faith in it, I would not have gotten a FSM!!)

Also, Subaru uses the same diagram for the fuel systems in both cars (I have part of an EA81 FSM), they just change the place of two things in the system

The 4wd tank has a depression in it for the rear diff. I think its a few gallons more, dont have a manual in my lap some folks.

The 4WD tanks are smaller to give the rear diff extra space.

I don't know if a 2WD tank will fit in your car if you have 4WD, but you can try :brow:

Alot of times, when the body is lifted, theres alot of room between the body and suspension. This could allow for a bigger tank.
