Lights mounted on the bumper

Recommended Posts

87 and up bumpers are styrofoam insude, so if you mount something to it the crew wll only bite through the top skin

85 and a6 bumpers are metal inside, so you can mont something to it

i have a light bar i made from a shortened ea81 roof rack spar, and my lights are mounted to it, the spar mounts to the bumper

I want to mount a pair of KC Daylighter lights to the top of my bumper like Skip did, is this possible? I really cant mount the lights to my roof, because i have a kayak rack, they'll be in the way. Nor do i want to mount them to the hood.

What Miles says is correct

but the skin is pretty thick.

I drilled and tapped it for 5/16 fine threaded bolts.

Mine have been fine for over a year now.

(Read no wobble)

The lights mounted in the bumper cutouts where the

turn signals used to be

are KC Daylighters.

I rewired the turn signals to the corner lights beside the headlamps.

The turnsignals are more visable there

and it is a simple job to rewire them.

I also increased the lamp wattage.

BTW There are two lamps in this location.

The yellow colored lamp still

lights for a parking light.

Hope this helps.

Awsome! This is something I wanted to do also. Wire up those extra marker lights as turn signals.

use a holesaw (2"?) to drill up through the bottom of the bumper, and then a 1/2" hole i think to mount the lights. the metal plate under each light acts as a big washer. it provides support to the lights as the plastic skin over the bumper and the styrofoam under it isnt very good on its own.

  • 2 months later...

heres my lifted wagon with lights on the bumper.. got these "driving" lights at advance for $18.. they use a 55 watt h3 bulb.. damn near brighter than the headlights, lol.. work great for delivery driving, since i can aim them out to the sides a bit and see mailboxes easier..

I mounted my hella lights below the bumper here, using the existing screws. Works great for me:

These things are REALLY bright. they swivel up down/left right. I point them down the road but to the sides a little to catch the deer. A couple 900 mile drives to Montana & they've been great for spotting deer before they're on the road. --E
