EA82T upgrade to spyder intake

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a intake for my 88 GL-10 T. I have heard that the spyder intake from the XT is what i want to look for is this true? what years? turbo or n/a? what parts need to come with it? do i need to use the fuel injectors? do i need the ECU? what about the throttle body? Will it bolt right in? what size is it compared to my intake?

its not a very easy task to undertake. Really the best thing to do is get the complete donor car for ALL the wiring and brackets and so on...it will bolt in....but wiring and tweaking things here and there are key....really you need to 'sit down' with both cars for quite a while to get it absolutely 100% correct.

Mine never ran correctly at idle/around town conditions because I never sat down with them...and I didnt have a donor car...jsut two complete spyder's and a few other complete non spyders.

most are NA...some are turbo...found ONLY in the 87.5 and up XT's.

88GL10T, I'm sorry to slightly jack this thread, but I have a question that concerns this topic, so please forgive me.

Hey Will, is the layout of the engine in the XT turbo different than a GL-10T? If not, then wouldn't it be more worthwhile to swap the motor out of the XT turbo into the GL-10? I know there will be differences in the wiring(XTs ecu is under the parcel shelf in the rear while the GL-10s have theirs underneath the dash). But if you have to get the wiring harness anyway, then why not just rewire with the XT harness and find a different location for the ecu?

Lots of Q's

very few A's

Lets see

I have heard that the spider intake from the XT is what i want to look for is this true?

yes

what years?

The switch occurred mid year of 1987

turbo or n/a?

Turbo preferred both can be made to work

what parts need to come with it?

throttle cable and bracket, dog bone (pitching stopper)

ps mount, AC comp mount

do i need to use the fuel injectors?

depends of if you find a turbo or na

do i need the ECU?

no

what about the throttle body?

yes

Will it bolt right in?

yes

what size is it compared to my intake?

?? Please refine this question

The intake tracts have a larger volume

as there is one per cylinder.

Sideline:

If you look at the newer Subaru engines (EJ series)

you will see there is a remarkable resemblance

Do I need tell you why??

Note:

Parts in question, wiring harness, TPS, EGR system

Hope this covers your Q's with

a little more precise set of A's

I have a question....

Are the spyder turbo injectors and the normal turbo mpfi ones the same?

Is the N/A distrubiter and the turbo distrubiter the same?

Will the N/A spyder pitch stopper work with the 87.5 Turbo spyder(I think so)?

Will the N/A spyder throttle cable work with the 87.5 Turbo spyder(again I dont see why not)?

Thanks people...
