Stretched Clutch Cable?

Recommended Posts

I just finsihed changing my clutch as the old one had no adjustment left, when I looked the old plate there still seemed to have little bit of depth in it probably 3mm. With the new clutch in using the old cable i only have less then half an inch of adjustment!!! This would most probably be due to a stretched clutch cable or a flywheel that has been worn too much?

A while back, a mechanic who has worked on soobs since the 360 was in prod. told me that they do stretch - will pro'lly replace mine soon as it is orig. and I don't want it to snap on me unexpectedly

They stretch,

I put 170,000 miles on my original one in the '83. I finally replaced it while doing another job on the car. I got a lot more adjustment and it felt like it had been greased! I had no idea how stiff my old cable had gotten. A new one was only $20.00 USD and it was a breeze to replace.

Just dont use a bunch of washers like I did. I like the idea of using a socket. The washers I put on mine are sliding back and forth and causing problems. I am just going to get another clutch cable. Thanks
