later, Peter
I have the opportunity to get (at a great price) a 96 OBW in wonderful cosmetic condition + new rack & pinion, tires & brakes... but it MAY need engine work... run it until it dies? buy a used engine (replace the belts, etc.)? or rebuild this one??? a shop near by will rebuild the engine or replace it 35k engine with a 2 year warranty for $2200... or any other suggestions.... it'd be the 3rd OBW I'd be owning. Snowman
What's actually wrong with the engine? If it's not something that could cause it to suddenly leave you stranded, I'd drive the car for a while, then find a good used engine and put it in yourself. Engine swaps on subarus are easy, you can rent the cherrypicker cheap, and it would be a great learning experience. Just my two cents.
nipper
As long as the car runs, its not going to strand you, I say ride. Thast what im doing with my 97 OBW. Good solid pretty car leather interior, great price ...and im going to ride, and when that time comes, it gets a new drivetrain. nipper
Spazz698
How often do you see a 90s+ subaru on the side of the road (other than with a flat)? I NEVER do! My 93 honestly should have blown up on me a couple times but it never has!
nipper
Mine has always got me home, or to work. ( i think they were afraid of dying on the side of the road). IN three subarus, they all only rode a flatbed once (not including going to the great parking lot in the sky)nipper
