later, Peter
I think I am picking up a second '96 OBW (third 2.5 OBW I'd own now)... the CEL was on with the story: "it comes on when it's damp, rainy or deep puddles... then it'll go out in a day or two"... Had the codes pulled= #420 Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Does that mean, Catalytic Converter replacement O2 sensor replacement MAF replacement Better gasoline & a can of Seafoam any ideas, guys? cookie
My 99 Forester has thrown that a couple of times in the past year. There has been some debate on the subject, but it seems to mean the cat may be on its way out. So far I have just cleared the code and have been thinking about changing one of the two cats. It seems like somebody did change a cat for that not too long ago, perhaps you could try a search.

Did the search & found: most of the responses regarding this code have to do with new O2 sensors or new cats, which seem to weaken by water contact.... I can do either of these myself (unless the cat has been replaced by a welder) so that won't be too bad... don't want to buy any parts so: I'll SEAFOAM it hope for the best.
