Sewoolf@ptdprolog.net
I've been having problems with blown relays for the blower motor. It started about three years ago. The first replacement lasted about a year. the second lasted about 10 months. I replaced a third in August '05 but it blew after about a month. So, i decided to replace the motor about a month ago along with a new relay. things worked well until this morning, but then it suddenly stopped again. i'm fairly certain the relay fried but i am unsure why. my understanding of electrical systems is limited but i'm never satisfied when i go to a Soob dealer since they rarely fix the problem and always overcharge. I have a 1991 Legacy turbo. The check engine light comes on quite a bit but it did not come on at all today - i am unsure if this is related but thought i'd mention it. I would also like to check the ground wire for the blower but i can't find it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cougar
This is kind of a strange one. It would be good to know what the voltage is at the motor and the current. I would have thought that the motor was bad but you changed that also. You might also check to see if there is any AC voltage on the coil leads if you have a voltmeter. I think the ground lead is through the switch. Usually power is sent to the motor and then the ground is connected through the resistors and the switch. This problem will have nothing to do with the CEL. The system is only concerned with engine problems that cause poor performance.
