Unhatched, Propane, Rollcage.....

Ok so I've been gone for a while, but for good reason. I just finished my "yearlong" project I started after sinking it in a mudhole last winter. Propane conversion, 22 point rollcage bumper to bumper, top mount radiator and raised radiator mount for better approach angle, adjustable strut lifts for max ground clearance off-road and proper camber on the road. Sand rail seats with the slots for my five point harnesses, power steering (VW top end). Propane tank is 33 gallon, mounted where the back seat used to be, custom exhaust that goes over the crossmember, and the obvious, completely gutted interior and unhatched. Crappy pics can be seen here

Thanks guys....

The propane system was put together by a tech at Suburban Propane's Conversion Center in Portland, OR. Basically I told him what I wanted and what it was going on and he gave me all the parts. I am using the Impco 200 carb with a bolt pattern that fits the Weber base adapter, the carb is oversized a bit, but the only thing that does is cost more. I wanted one that would work with a turbocharger or without. It runs really smooth and the propane conversion was actually the easiest part of the job. The conversion center I went to had a huge collection of used tanks so I had plenty of options for mounting.

the 200 seems to be the mixer of choice for 4cyl turbo apps. I dont like how it has a 90 degree elbow on it though, I will probably use a 225 if I decide to go propane on my next motor.

your hatch is MEAN looking.

got any detail pics of the cage IE in cab, and some of the mounting points?:D

Awesome! nice work! I work on alot of LPG trucks...

At least if ya get stuck ...next time you can use the tank for cooking up some grub!

We fabbed an adapter , so we can fill up 5gal tanks for our bbq's...(when we transer LP gas into a spare tank so we can change fuel pumps/filters).

The tubing is 1.5" x .095 DOM, and the 22 points are anywhere the cage terminates to the vehicle, which are 3 for the rear hoop, 5 for the front hoop, 6 for the rear downbraces and rear bumper mounts, and the rest are tied in to the rollcage from the front bumper mounts to the strut towers down to some lower bracing and skidplate supports and back though the firewall.

Gd the power is good, I'll let you know more after I take it out for the first time and give it a real test! Ha Ha, yup no heater.

As far as the 225 goes, I think you can mix and match parts to do whatever works for your application, housings, fittings...that's what I did.

Go the Gasseous powered Subies!

  Well done on the project, It feels good to get it all together and running.

That thing will be unstoppable,

Is it dedicated Propane or are you running a liquid fuel system as well?

Thats going to change a few ideas of what a Subie can do an where they can go.

Took the hatch out today for a test run. Absolutely no power loss with the propane, in fact I think it runs better and more consistent than the weber I was running. Not having a windshield sucks, I need to get that put in and buy some chapstick. The top mount radiator works nicely, and the new approach angle is unreal, didn't even use the skidplate once today on things I would have stuffed my old bumper into before.

HE HAS SEEN THE LIGHT, CAN ANYONE ELSE SEE IT???

Wind it up rich Bugaru, drive it a month and then lean it out a little.

Ease the old girl into it.

Sensational.

Love your work:clap:
