Should oil fill cap be snug (sealed) or loose (to allow air to enter crankcase). When I remove cap at idle, the rpm's drop like engine is going to die, then they pick back up. when I put my hand over oil fill, it sucks my hand to opening. Always my dipstick is push out....like air is pushing it out. Is my engine screaming for air...like a pcv valve problem? Has anyone else experienced this...what was the fix?:cornfuzz:

That doesn't sound right. They should be snug but most get worn and dry out (Rubber gasket on the underside of the cap) so they become loose. You could always call Jeff or Gary at W+L if you need a quick question answered. They know their stuff and you are right there. I couldn't tell you what the prob is though...

Is this on the turbo wagon? Its a sealed system, so everything needs to be tight. Once in a while my 84 turbo coupe dipstick pops out a little, but hasnt caused the engine to run bad. But a loose oil cap could cause rough running.

Gary said that cap should be tight, that engine gets it air through PCV systems. He said to by new subaru pcv valve, that engine should not suck my hand to the oil fill.

It is supposed to be a tight seal. The pcv system gets its air from the filter box.

If it sucks your hand down, it just shows it's working.

Wouldn't hurt to check the valve and hoses though. A properly working pcv system can really help your motor run more efficiently, last longer, and reduce pollution also.

ya, but if you lose a glove you know you always have that extra one "stored" where the oil filler cap used to be..if you need the glove just slap a piece of duct tape over the hole....:grin:

PhatBrat...No I keep forgetting....Gary's helping me rebulid this ej22t....I found some parts for his ej22t....so he's helping me fix mine.
