Recommended Posts

ok the facts.

fresh re seal on the motor.

no leaks oil or water

dosnt use any water

it runs hot 3/4 temp on the freeway at -10 degrees F

runs up to almost the red if i slow down(ie stop an go trafic).

here is the funny thing new thermostate that is opening.

radiator hose on thermo side is 95 degerees 85 on water pump side. thermostat housing is 200 degrees. and raditor is cold.

anyone have any ideas could the radiator be pluged therefore not alowing enough flow? but then why is the raditor and rad hoses so cold like the fluid isnt worm?

Perhaps the water jacket on the motor got plugged when the block was re-sealed?

I'm not sure if you can flush this out, but you can call you local radiator shop and see if they have a way to pressure flush a radiator system in the car.

I know the instant oil change places do a radiator flush, but it's typically low pressure (about 4psi)

You might be able to build an adaptor from to flush it yourself.

Your local home improvement or hardware store should have fittings, hose clamps, etc that you can piece together to adapt it to a garden hose.

Remove the thermostat, then disconnect radiator hoses on both sides to flush just the engine's water jacket.

I ran into a similiar scenerio with an ea81 wagon.I took it to a mechanic, he went straight for the radiator core with his hand. While everything aroundit was HOT the core was cold.Plugged from age.Replaced it solved the problem.I had already ruled out the thermostat and water pump though.Would run hotter onthe free way then in town though.
