mortimc Posted December 12, 2006 Share Posted December 12, 2006 I am putting a 1985 MPFI turbo EA82 in an 88 SPFI wagon I have already installed the engine, the engine bay portion of the wiring harness, and the computer. All the prepherial things work, including the starter. But there is not power to the fuel pump or the starter. Many of the plugs were the same but I have a feeling that doesnt mean anything. And i believe the fuel pump is run differently with the MPFI than it is with the SPFI, in regards to the disty telling the pump to turn on in the SPFI. calebz Posted December 12, 2006 Share Posted December 12, 2006 You are dealing with two completely different fuel and ignition systems. Don't count on anything plugging in and working. Noah is onto something RE: different pump triggering, but its not a difference between turbo and SPFI, its a difference between the 85-86 fuel/ignition system and the 87+ system. GeneralDisorder Posted December 14, 2006 Share Posted December 14, 2006 The turbo uses a higher pressure fuel pump as well. Best thing to do is just swap the turbo dash harness into the car. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I am about positive that the FSM rates the turbo pump at 60-70 PSI and the SPFI pump is a bit less than that.
