What is a MIL?

Malfunction Indicator Lamp, otherwise known as a CEL, or Check Engine Light.

Driving style is a big factor.

I found the temp sensor on my 93 Impreza was a factor even though the sensor didn't throw a code.

What about carbon build up on the intake valves? Maybe a throttle stomp with every tank full will blow some carbon out. Isn't this carbon build up a common problem?

I also recommend Lubrilon engine treatment. http://www.xcelplus.com/products.htm

I think it is good for older high mileage engines.

I have used it in 2 cars now with good improvement in mpg.

Take care,

John

No I have no idea. How would I find out?

On level ground on the highway, are the RPMS always "normal"? If they run higher or occasionally shoot up for no apparent reason on level ground, there's a problem. It's the auto version of a slipping clutch, sort of, though I don't think it's common at all.

My 1987 GL Wagon runs great and gets about 26 miles a gallon average. Does a little better on the freeway, a little less in town. Mileage 216,000. No complaints.

I drive a 95 Legacy wagon, 5MT, AWD, with 335,000 miles. After doing a Seafoam treatment about 5,000 miles ago, my average has been about 31 MPG. I mostly drive on the interstate, cruise control set at 65.
