Find a wrecking yard and gather up all the clamps you can find - usually they will just "give" them to you because they have no particular value to the yard. BTW - when I pulled the rear long bolt on the hub, it just came right out, no problem at all - clean as a "new" one. I guess I'm lucky we only have salt water in the ocean, uh? Eventually I ended up cutting the wires with cutting pliers. They're nice if they're not rusted but living in the northeast, I've never seen one on a car that wasn't. Let's see, look like pg 255 in their catalog and they call them 'Heavy Duty Large-Diameter Twin-Ring Hose Clamps' The fuel injection hose clamps I have seen at napa etc though of course the soob clamps might be metric sized. I saw on endwrench they say to put the radiator hose clamps as near to the hose bib as possible, to prevent coolant from getting trapped between the bib and where the clamp is, which can cause hose degredation. Mcmaster also has the other ones I've seen on soobs 'Constant-Tension Spring Hose and Tube Clamps' and 'Wide-Band Self-Tightening Spring Hose and Tube Clamps' Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No more problems after that. they wear the hoses quicker and don't have as consistent pressure around the hose. or maybe i should say they are less forgiving. minor i know, but over the years i've seen it. not a big deal, just thought maybe i was missing something here. i'll use them if the OEM style isn't available (for less than $6 each from Subaru!). Coolant type or fuel injection? 2) Nipper probably didn't read your post, just the subject. 3) the fuel injection clamps are nice. But with all the worm gear type clamps in use today you have to wonder why? I bet because they work so well. I use them for many many projects -not just hoses that why I have this is the shed. Yes I get a lot of the worm drive type hose clamps from mcmaster, and they always come as the Breeze brand mentioned (though mcmaster does not state the brand on the site). Hm that's interesting I just looked at the prices for the oem style hose clamps on mcmaster and they are like $6 ea too. Plus they might be way too big even in the smallest size. Skip Posted February 28, 2008 Share Posted February 28, 2008 Porc, I wish I had a picture... I have seen 55 gallon drums, yes 55 gallon drums, full of "not to spec" hose clamps" at "Breeze". I was a member of the Tunnelton VFD (where their plant is~1 mile from my homestead) We had to tour (inspect) the plant. BTW their Tunnelton plant was (durring WW II) one of the largest tear gas and dynamite facitities in the US of A. (the "bunkers" are still visable) That is why you will find my little town (Tunnelton) on most maps. Named not for a coal mine but for housing the brave souls, who put a hole in a mountian for a canal, yes a donkey pulled barge type canal!! One of the only canal tunnels in existance. I don't know the proper name for them, but the "German" style hose clamps are my personal favorite. They are like the regular band style clamps, but the serrations in the band part (which the worm gear threads in to) are stamped indentations rather than punched clear through. (The regular 'american' style clamps are indeed rough on the hoses- the rubber tends to bulge up through the punched serrations and then gets a bit shredded as you loosen/tighten the clamps. The "German" clamps are great and allow multiple disconnect/reconnects of hoses without chewing the hoses up. I think Bavarian Autosport sells "German" style clamps. Feeling was that they were OK but cost more (so - no go) I still have a few samples (30 year old samples) that I come across sometimes and install (usually fuel line clamps) And a "metric sized adjustable hose clamp" is like an adjustable wrench (used to call them "hong-kong-fits-all") Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They also have somethign similar that looks interesting: "Lined Worm-Drive Hose and Tube Clamps" - 'An extended band acts as a liner to protect soft hose and tube from being cut by slots in the band.' I ordered new radiator hoses, which came in a sealed bag with two twin-wire clamps. I'm wondering if this is standard for most places. I usually order my parts from 1stsubaruparts.com and think the world of Jason, but I needed some other parts on my order ASAP and, hence, placed the order with www.hondasubaruparts.com based out of Kansas City, MO, which is closer to me. If you want only the clamps, the part # is 091748014. They're only 91 cents apiece. McMaster prices for this style of clamp start at $6.50.
