why is there a drain plug on my gas tank? is that an old subaru thing because i've never seen that on any of my other cars.

You know, like if some junk gets in your gas tank. Rocks, sugar, water, cow poo, a yo-yo, i got drunk and peed in there (sorry), plutonium (if this happens, DO NOT exceed 85 MPH), other such stuff.

 

It's better it's there and you don't need it, than it not be there and you do need it.

Might not be a bad idea, but I'd run it down to a 1/4 tank or less just for ease of handling less fuel. If it is running ok, I wouldn't say it is necessary. I've never done it on mine, but if you are bored, or an overachiever I doubt you are going to hurt anything.

 

Another reason is for removal of the gas tank, for whatever reason. Say your tank got damaged, and you decided it needed removal; it is MUCH easier to remove an empty tank than a full one.

 

Anyone who has ever changed an in-tank fuel pump can relate to this.

 

It is one reason they should have kept the drain around in newer automobiles.

I'm still trying to figure out how to attach the hook to the stock aluminum spoiler on my wagon, but alas, it is all a waste of time as the stock ea81 aluminum hatch spoiler will only flow a consistant 1.13 GigaWatts.

Toyotas up to the mid 90's had them too. Makes it a lot easier to patch the tank when you can drain it out quick.

I am willing to bet that if it didn't have the drain plug, you would be telling us why it needs one.

Yeah but if they kept that idea on todays vehicles no one would have gas when they came out of Wal-mart. Cause the way gas prices are and the way people are (You know nothing good can come from that)

 

Just like on most newer vehicles they have a metel screen inside the tank filer, So no one can syphin you're gas out.. (Like the 99 Blazer, Trying to put a new fuel pump in and you can't get the gas out unless you take a fuel line off and let it drain)

 

Still a drain plug would be nice.

 

and FYI, Suger in the gas won't do anything.. Mythbusters did it and nothing. Water is you're best bet.

yeah but they did it on an old school v8 and those damn things will run forever aslong as you keep water in them. but some suger in a honda with MPFI or subaru or any MPFI,SPFI car will screw it up.

that's good cuz i'm pretty sure someone tried to screw with my car by doing that so looks like its time to run some more seafoam through the gas tank.
