Rusty Olson
There's a 2000 automatic Forrester that is being parted out by a junkyard, and I'm wondering if it would install on my 1998 automatic Legacy Outback without any modifications. I'd appreciate any info along this line. Rusty Olson
idosubaru
without any modifications. definitely not. that's a Phase II SOHC EJ25, yours is a Phase I DOHC EJ25. significant differences with that phase change.

s'ko
What a great forum! Thanks for your quick response. Rusty Olson I am doing the reverse. I have a 2k OBS and I am putting in a 98 EJ25 DOHC. For you, the engine is mechanically the same, the problem is the sensors in the different phases. If you can get the entire motor, harness and ECU, The 2k harness can be trimmed and thinned down to just the essential engine management and ECU wires, then it can be spliced into the 98 harness so that your fuel sensors and all of the other OBD2 stuff will be hooked up. I can help you with this part or do it for you if you want. Give me a PM. BW
