gm top engine / injector cleaner

Featured Replies

got a few 160z bottles of gm top engine cleaner / injector cleaner given to me , it says not to put into fuel tank, but cleans the fuel system ,

I believe you need a gm special tool to administer into the intake, injection system.

will it hurt anything by using it in the fuel tank, ? was reading some where else, that to use it like seafoam

It may not be fuel pump freindly. If it says not to, I would not do it. I believe that stuff was made to run the engine with the fuel pump disabled to do the cleaning. It wouldn't hurt as a throttle body cleaner sprayed in.

Don't ever use the GM Injector cleaner in the tank- will destroy pump seals. I used to work as a GM tech. GM dealers use a setup to put the cleaner in the fuel rail near the injectors to clean the injectors (bad design - would clog up with some brands of gas- mostly the regional chains). Top engine cleaner can't go in either - the injector cleaner and top engine are two different products. If you have the top engine it can be use to clean the carbon out of the valves and in the heads-run the engine until warm, just disconnect a vacuum hose to the intake and put it in the can (if it is not spray can) with the engine running. Be prepared to rev the engine to keep it running. let the last 1/4 can stall the engine. Then let is sit overnight- will be little hard to start in the morning but it will remove any carbon in there and your whole neighborhood will think you are having the largest BBQ ever (no joking- smells like 100 BBQ grills lit all at once- if you neighbors are picky- don't do this in the summer or park a few blocks away)

heheh did this with a spray bottle of water, the amount of smoke it made was ENORMUS.

And part of me thought it was really really cool

I used gm top engine treatment on a carburated 79 monte carlo V8 305 once. With air cleaner cover off, dumped bottle into carb with engine running 3/4 throttle choke open til the engine Dies. Let sit over night.

Next morning went to start. Here is the biggy.....it will not start worth a ************. Crank crank crank cough sputter knock cough sputter. That is the okd carbon busting loose. Finally it may start fogging the Whole town* neighbors will think you blew it up. You will think you blew it up. That engine ran forever though after that. Was good on the V8

Subaru service manuel says to use the Gm top engine cleaner to clean the idle air control solenoid valve. It says to pour it into the large air hose from the air filter housing going to the idle air valve whille holding throttle at 2000 rpms and wait for the white smoke to clear. What scared me off using anything through that tube was the next step which is to reset the TPS with Subaru scan tools. (beyond my talent/apprehension level) Bob

ok, where is a good vacuum hose on a ej22 to do this ? though the idle air control ?

Sorry, I didn't mention the service manuel I was referring to was for a 2.5 DOHC for 1999 Outbacks, I don't know if the 2.2 has similar layout or not but on the 2.5 it's a large line, probably an inch diameter going into the idle air control valve off of the air intake assembly. Bob
