    is it too late for my car? a 78 wagon with a bum transmission. What are my not so obvious options, not involving crushing rusted metal? (it drives in 4wd)

    At least I think that is what it needs. When it's in 4wd it'll drive, but in 2wd it makes a terrible grinding sound in the front right and it doesn't go anywhere. A local mechanic thinks it needs a transmission (the whole thing). Who Knows?
