I have a 1996 outback with the 2.5 hydraulic lifter engine.. My understanding is, this is the only year they were made with the hydraulic lifters.. Need to replace the engine and I don't like the hydraulic lifter engine.. can I put a later model 2.2 or 2.5 solid lifter engine in this car without running into a lot of problems? Car has an automatic transmission..
