December 7, 200916 yr Hey people. New here and looking for my first Subaru. I know lots of people who own them and have always wanted one. I take that back...I owned a Subaru Brat...but it was 1/10th scale...and I was 15 years old at the time. Anyway thought I would introduce myself. I am currently looking at a '83 GL. I went to go see it and test drove it. When I hit the brakes the rear end make a sound that sounded like a flushing toilet...or maybe it was grinding metal. Also had an intermittent rubbing sound that would change with vehicle speed...not engine speed. Not sure if I should grab it or not. Wanted $800 for it and had a list of fixed parts...including rear wheel bearings. Said his mechanic told him the noise was from the brake pads not lining up??? Anyway I have always wanted a Subaru and I am going to find one...although around Dallas the older ones are far from being common. Cheers!
