Gen 1 & 2 Front Struts - Are they still available?

Featured Replies

Gen 1's are different. You will have a very difficult time trying to find front struts for a gen 1. Best luck is ebay. Or have to do some modding of gen 2 struts.

I have Gen 2 struts on my 79 sedan.  They fit fine.  The overal length is about an inch shorter but that suits me fine.  These are ajdustable so you can always lift them a bit if you need.  The travel is the same as Gen 1.

Alternitavely you can put new inserts in your old struts.  I have done this too.  It took a little fiddling but I made it work.

Cheers

Dirk,  So sounds like the Gen 2 will bolt up and work fine, it will just sit a little lower.  Great!

OK, Thanks, ordered some Gen 2's from autopartswarehouse.com, couldn't beat the deal, $75 shipped total for the pair.

It would be great if you could post some pics of the new and old side-by-side. Also, any mods that you might need to make to get them to work.

Got the Gabriel struts in, I will post info after the install.  At first glance it looks like they will work.  The first place I orderded them from returned my $ annd said they were out of stock.  Looks like these may also be going obsolete soon.  I ended up getting some off Amazon for under $100 for both shipped.  I noticed the part number on the strut was different than the one on the box, I will pass on that info on also.
